Routing

Most freight trains take the line to Reading West and onwards to Didcot/Reading apart from those shown with a # as these take the “mainline” towards Woking

turning off at Byfleet & New Haw on their way to and from London.

Darkside

Most freight through Basingstoke is “boxes” carried on numerous flats, the engineers trains to/from Eastleigh to Hoo and Hinksey can convey allsorts or of

course nothing!

The daily enterprise 6M44 generally conveys oil in TTAs , empty rail carriers, containers and the odd unusual wagon. There is one heavy haul service from

Neasden to Wool which conveys sand in 369s.

Other darkside interest is provided in the daily cartic service (6o20/6m58) and the MOD traffic (principally 6V38) which can convey containers, vehicles and

VGA stores vans


Passenger

Basingstoke is a busy station with numerous services made up of 444/450/158 and 159. There are also Xcountry services to Bournemouth in the hands of voyagers

and a loca service to Reading in the hands of 165s. There are occasional VSOE services operated by DBS to Southampton and of course the occasional charter.

Facilities

The station has excellent amenities with toilets, shop and cafes and lots of undercover area. It is 5 minutes walk from the town centre with numerous shops,

pubs etc
