Belt, braces and braces Steve. Hopefully the message will get through to all the snappers.
I could use a more elegant solution as the disk controller on my machine supports disk mirroring. Unfortunately I only added the second disk some time after buying it, and enabling mirroring would involve trashing the whole system and reinstalling everything from scratch, which I just can't be bothered with.

Disk drives have moving parts and WILL fail given enough time, its just a question of when. Always keep your photos on at least 2 drives - backup immediately after an editing session. External USB drives are quite cheap and can be stored in a fireproof container. Alternatively - check out Mozy for online backups.
My PC has 2 internal 1Tb drives, one of which is usually offline. Once a week or so I'll activate the 2nd disk, boot from a USB memory stick and use Ghost to copy the primary disk to the secondary. ANy changes over the course of the week are copied to an external USB drive.

Thanks Dave. There's a lot of people out there that don't do it.
My negative turned into a positive as I lost CS2 and MX4 to gain CS4 and CS3.

Last week my system crashed and I had to wipe the disk and reload windows. Fortunately for me I always back up my work once per month, had I not, I could have lost all the collection including my website.
Please, for peace of mind, back up your pictures, it only costs a pint of beer once every three months.
