would like to start a thread as to whether we keep this forum running
posting and visits are quite low I assume given the up to the minute gen created by blackberrys etc
I am willing to give it another month or so but currently there seems little point of this forum as an addition to the main heads up service
please please feel free to comment and post questions, sightings, anything railway you can even related plug your photos etc

Re: a lone voice in the crowd
I find the forum very useful for things like schedules for regular WTT freight while VAR and STP workings are more suitable for the mailing lists.
IMHO the forum should concentrate on the regular WTT's for the various nodal points and passing times for regular freight services to help plan expeditions etc

Re: a lone voice in the crowd
WTT's are potentially useful, but one problem is that because freight companies sometimes "retain" paths that they no longer use, the WTT's can contain lots of trains that never run. For example, although now removed, the Warrington - Knowsley trip remained in the WTT for a year or more after the train had ceased.
As another example, the latest Warrington WTT posted contains "4M83, Coatbridge - Basford Hall" which no longer operates (and has not run for something like 2 years). So, yes please, more WTT's, but only if someone has time to kick out those trains which never run.

I don't get to many places & therefore don't see much, but always find the forum useful when searching for info on future trains.wetbag wrote:hi all

Unfortunately, most info seems to be e-mail postings these days, which I suppose is fine if you are sat lineside all day????
There always seem to be workings that don't get a mention though, or not until it's too late to plan to go & see them.
Hope the forum keeps going.

yeah same here. theres like a big black hole that starts at Crewe, borders Wolverhampton and takes in the marches and the cambrian. i appreciate theres not to many people lineside round here but its always the same. gens posted for everywhere else with the east midlands a prime example but when it comes to us people out in the sticks, hardly anything

Re: a lone voice in the crowd
I've often thought that this forum is very quiet for the number of people registered on it! It's your forum - tell us what you want out of it if there's something you think is missing!
Regarding WTT lists - if you post too far in advance for a given day, then it becomes inaccurate. When I uised to receive Barnetby lists on a regular basis, if I got a week's worth on a Sunday, then Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday teneded to be reasonably accurate, Thursday and Friday were OK, but some of the STP/VAR weren't there, and Saturday looked nothing like accurate. Also, a generic WTT list wouldn't include those regular trains which always use STP paths, as they have no WTT paths in the system.

Re: a lone voice in the crowd
A lot of info can be found from headsup e-mail postings, but not everything, and on a couple of occasions I have asked for assistance on timings/route but received no reply. Other people obviously knew of times, but it makes me wonder if it is worth asking a question in the first place.onlydjw wrote:tell us what you want out of it if there's something you think is missing!
The calendar facility could surely be used more often for special workings???? It used to be a good reference at one time, but this month only shows a birthday.
Oh, I prefer the page colour today, that other colour was a bit like hard work.

You're in luck, I was hoping 71000 would come via Birmingham tomorrow, but it's via the Marches.bushcutta wrote:theres like a big black hole that starts at Crewe, borders Wolverhampton and takes in the marches and the cambrian. i appreciate theres not to many people lineside round here but its always the same. gens posted for everywhere else with the east midlands a prime example but when it comes to us people out in the sticks, hardly anything

I think Its useful to have the forum - my particular use (apart from posts gen) is looking back at it - because i have a tendancy to accidentally deleted messages from my Blackberry

Re: a lone voice in the crowd
That was where I posted, but looking at that section there are quite a few questions from other people as well that have no answers.wetbag wrote:sharpo

Don't worry though, you can't have all the answers.
