Re: Weekends Railtours
I took it before the bridge so I got the sun on the side of the loco (I did in fact take a whole sequence of shots and this looked the best to me). Letting it get beyond the bridge would mean either a head on loco or showing the shadow side.
Your shot was over the bridge in my pic and turn right and up the hill. My location was where the road runs right by the line

Nice dramatic shot. How would it have turned out if you let the loco come up the bank to the front of the bridge and snap it as it moves to the left when it leaves only three hoppers showing in the background.
By the way where's the location for this shot.

I was intending to phot D1015 at Little Bedwyn as I thought I could find a gap in the undergrowth, but there really is no decent angle for a westbound train that early in the morning any more, too much vegetation.
By the time I got to Beech Grove Lock it had clouded over and I've shot the Western from on top of and underneath that bridge before, so I wandered down the towpath a bit further. It's a nice angle, I shall use it again when it's sunny.
Ta for the comments on the other shots. I'm far more inclined to go more experimental with plastic rather than locos (there will be another along shortly anyway) - that shot in the early dawn mist made it into the Railway Magazine so it paid for a bit of diesel as well.
Like your S&C shots, I didn't find that Smardale location, but I know it's a bit further north than that cutting I shot at in April. I must get to Docker, the only time I was in the area recently it was p****ng it down

I was absolutely cream crackered climbing the bank at Smardale. This is where I stood...

Looking forward to seeing Martins S&C pics - looks like you used some of the locations I did in April.

Hi Steve,
You got some nice pictures there but no western peering through the canal bridge mouth. I aslo like the way you captured the plastic thing pre dawn with the mist.
Lol. I just noticed your message about the S & C as I was responding to your pictures.
