ECML Diversions October 2010
Joint Line Diversions – 9 & 16 October 2010
I have put together a spreadsheet of the known paths at the present time – currently diverted passenger services, the revised East Midlands Trains Joint Line service and the RHTT path (revised to take account of the revised opening times of the Joint Line).
This spreadsheet is in the files area of the group/forum receiving this message, and is available from me (onlydjw@yahoo.co.uk) if the group/forum you are receiving this message to does not have a public files area. This file was last updated on 15 October (updated after the first week of diversions, and RHTT times amended and charter added) – please ensure you have the latest version. Also please note that some of the late information posted last weekend had 5 missing paths for the East Coast services – this spreadsheet includes those paths, as they all ran! I now discover this is because these 5 schedules have been made WTT!
Further details on East Coast services can be found at http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/Documents/PTT%20Sat%209%20Oct%202010%20Wk%2028%20offer.pdf & http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/Documents/PTT%20Sat%2016%20Oct%202010%20Wk%2029%20offer.pdf
October 9 & 16 sees diversions of East Coast, Hull Trains & Grand Central services via Lincoln & Sleaford from 1200. There are no diversions on the Sundays; even though the engineering work is until 1100 (there are no signal boxes booked to be open on the Joint Line).
Freight is limited, as Freightliner are either running early via the ECML (4E22 and 4L55 vice 4L85), or via Grantham, Nottingham and Chesterfield (4E49), DB have only 0H05 (ran ECML as 0H06 last week in the morning) and 4D56 via Lincoln – 6H86 booked via Chesterfield, Nottingham and Grantham, leaving only GBRf, who ran 0H78 earlier via the ECML last week, and have 2 paths which may or may not be used for engine moves (0D79 & 0H84), I have left in 4E19 and 0H78 to show the paths – I don’t expect either to run. I don’t have schedules for the amended paths, hence the blanks in the spreadsheet.
Note – any light engine moves are, as far as I am aware, restricted to the standard 5 loco maximum over the diversionary route.
The RHTT (3J43/3J44) ran for the first time on 15 October, and has a revised path for 16 October to allow for the revised opening hours of the joint line. Also the Northern Belle is booked in the evening.
The Joint Line will be open for 12 hours, resulting in early morning East Midlands Trains services between Lincoln & Sleaford/Peterborough being cancelled. Some other services are re-timed to accommodate the diversions. Of note is 2T48 1352 Grimsby Town-Newark Northgate runs to Newark Castle, and 2K45 1536 Newark Northgate-Peterborough starts from Newark Castle, due to a lack of platform capacity at Newark Northgate. EMT times now confirmed.
All services are via Gainsborough, except some Leeds Services that are running via Newark Northgate, and Hull Trains, which are running via Newark Northgate to maintain their Retford calls (and I believe may be running via Grantham too). The Leeds services running via Newark Northgate are all being dragged between Newark Northgate and Peterborough (except the last down service 1D49, which is a HST), as is 1S21 1430 Kings Cross-Edinburgh (dragged from Peterborough to Doncaster). 6 class 67’s are to be used – the thunderbirds from Peterborough & Doncaster, and 4 extra locos hired in from DBS from Bristol Barton Hill. The Kings Cross thunderbird remains, and there is one loco at Doncaster for most of the day too. Hull Trains services will run via Newark Northgate (reverse), Lincoln, Sleaford station (reverse) & Grantham.
Buses will replace trains between Peterborough and Grantham/Newark (and variations on these – i.e. some services are Peterborough-Grantham & change for Grantham-Newark Northgate), with the hourly Leeds trains calling at Newark Northgate (and most at Retford).
Of note – there are no services between Peterborough and Grantham on 9 October – East Midlands Trains services are diverted via Melton Mowbray and East Coast have a roughly hourly replacement bus between Peterborough and Newark calling at Grantham. The Grantham-Nottingham route will see only the hourly Skegness services on 9 October.
Route learning/refreshing has already commenced in the cabs of units, and there is a 0P05/0P06 route learning path SX used by the Peterborough Thunderbird running most days (reports of this are most welcome, as it doesn’t show up on the various TOPS lists that are sometimes posted)!
If anyone is able to help with this matter - your contributions are most welcome, and will be treated in confidence if required. I will update the information if any new information becomes available.
Many thanks.

Re: ECML Diversions October 2010
Some new information has become available this morning. The RHTT has been re-timed, the Northern Belle is booked in the evening, and the reason for the 5 missing paths from the Lincoln STP/VAR info posted last weekend has become apparent - they are WTT paths! (a couple have been slightly re-timed). There are blanks in the info, as I only have Lincoln information that is complete, but the newly updated spreadsheet gives an idea at least.
Also, I was told that there should be a GBRf hauled 465 drag 5X89 Slade Green-Doncaster Wabtec booked tomorrow. The only path shown is the WTT one via the ECML, so it is not clear what the situation is regarding this.
